A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON ITALY

Why Abruzzo?

Mountains, villages and the Adriatic.

On Italy’s Adriatic side, Abruzzo brings together mountain landscapes, historic villages, vineyards and sandy shores. Discovering its character means noticing the smaller things too: handmade ceramics, regional cooking and evenings that leave room to linger.

01 / NATURE

Wild landscapes.
Room to explore.

Often described as the “greenest region of Europe”, Abruzzo has around a third of its territory protected across three national parks, a regional park and more than thirty nature reserves.

From the open landscapes of Campo Imperatore to wooded valleys and mountain streams, the scenery changes with the seasons. Spring brings fresh greens, summer opens up the highlands, and winter gives the mountains another character.

These protected landscapes are home to Marsican brown bears, wolves, Apennine chamois and golden eagles. Their presence is part of what makes the region special, with wildlife best appreciated responsibly and from a distance.

02 / CULTURE

Stone streets.
Living traditions.

Exploring Abruzzo reveals more than beautiful villages. In Santo Stefano di Sessanio, stone doorways and narrow streets shape the setting; in Castelli, painted ceramics tell another part of the region’s story.

Churches, workshops and everyday gathering places give each town its own character. The pleasure is in taking time to notice them: a flower-filled balcony, a painted plate or a square settling into the evening.

03 / THE TABLE

Rooted in the land.
Shared at the table.

From arrosticini and pasta alla chitarra to local cheeses and coastal fish dishes, Abruzzo’s cooking reflects its mountains, farms and sea.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo bring the vineyards to the table, while local olive oil runs through everyday cooking. Food here is part of discovering the region—and a reason to linger.

04 / THE SEA

The Adriatic coast

Room to slow down.

From broad sandy beaches to the distinctive fishing platforms of the Costa dei Trabocchi, Abruzzo’s coastline offers another rhythm.

Morning coffees by the water, afternoons on the sand and evening walks along the shoreline — time by the Adriatic can be as simple as that.
